Good news is I just had to replace the hard drive.  Bad news is the old hard drive was fried beyond repair.  Mediocre news is that my ‘o‘ key still does not work.  I survive by copying and pasting the vowel.  Repeatedly.  And I will continue to do so until I can actually afford a new device.
