They’ll be there,
when we emerge from
these caves,
those distant peaks,
those winding rivers singing
songs over the rocks
they smooth.
It’ll be there,
that quiet sea desperate
to maintain this calm,
all those swimming below,
thankful the vibrations
have stopped.
They’ll be there,
when this great pause
is lifted,
and with them will be
choice.
We can harm them again,
in the fury of our
reclaimed motion,
or we can save them,
and take from this
a lesson in tenderness
and care.

What we need
and nothing more,
a refusal to waste,
an understanding that we
share this planet
with so many
others.
