One into ten, ten into
half a hundred,
and on beyond
the fingers and toes
of all those we know
to count them.
This day is all days,
this moment
frozen with everything
else that’s frozen,
a planet on pause.  

Let’s call this
hibernation,
and set our dreams
to the springtime,
to the summer of
wildflowers
and blackberries
on the bush.

We’ll wake starving
for sunlight,
for legs that remember
running,
for arms that can hold,

for each other.
