Diya on the Wall

Credit: Ratna Pochiraju
On the wall sat the ancient diya*
The flame steady as the aged mountainsMourning the death piling in the dark shadows
For hours, days, weeks, and monthsThe flame burned, relentless in spreading lightEven as the void threatened to extinguish the world.

Note: Diya is a small cup-shaped oil lamp made from clay.
The poetry style used is Cherita.

P.S: I wrote the draft two days ago; almost 1 1/2 day before the PM's announcement. It does seem fitting to share this today (since tomorrow will be a break day).
