Well this is certainly a novelty. Imagine it. A real openly gay performer with tons of talent playing the lead role in a biopic about George Michael. I'm not sure Hollywood would even let this happen, let alone straight people who go to theaters. Having an openly gay performer actually play a gay character might take all the fun out of it for them.
