When You Need Peace in Uncertain Times

“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1

I’m settled out on my back porch putting my fingertips to the keyboard. It’s what I do when I’m not sure what to do. My puppy, Shaka, is lounging nearby, taking his third or fourth puppy nap for the day. The birds are chirping, swooping tree to tree, eagerly stockpiling their materials for nest-building. The squirrels are heartily leaping from one branch to the next. Our garden fountain melodically plays its tune of calming, flowing water – like a sound machine that my heart needs right now to soothe the uneasiness I feel in my heart. According to the birds and the squirrels, life is as-usual. They are going about their days, perhaps ministering to us in these unusual days.

I know you’re feeling angst and uneasiness too. Our world is shutting down as we fight this virus together. But that doesn’t mean our God has shut down. I know this, but I still feel shaky. It’s an unsettling feeling to know that this virus is creeping into our everyday lives. If you’re feeling angst, stress, despair, and uncertainty, I want you to know you’re not alone in those feelings.

All I know to do is to write and so I offer you what I hope are hope-filled words today.

Here’s what I know.

In these uncertain times, God wants to be your shelter. He wants to carry you through these unsettling times. He wants to be the One you turn to. He wants to calm the angst in your heart. He wants to soothe the worry, mend your anxious thoughts, and refresh your tired soul. He sees all of this. These circumstances do not surprise Him. He wants us to rest in the shelter of His presence.

Like the birds and the squirrels don’t worry about the details of life, He wants us to rest and let Him work all of this together for good. Like the garden fountain, He wants to keep the flow of His living water flowing through us as we look to Him daily for peace, provision, and guidance.

So today, when you feel the angst building, when you anxiously check the news, when you’re afraid to run an errand, when you’re worried about your kids, your parents, your grandparents, when you feel paralyzed with fear….

Find your back porch and take a breath.

Watch the birds. Look at nature. Listen for God’s still, small voice. Listen for the One who wants to be your shelter in these shaky times. Abide and live in the shelter of God’s company. He will never leave you. He will help you and carry you through to the other side.

We will get through this together. Hang on, dear sister, Your mighty Shelter is at work.

Jesus, I look to You for peace in these uncertain days. Help me run to You for the shelter I need. Please wrap Your calming presence around my heart as I wait on You to bring us through these difficult circumstances. Thank You that You never leave me.

I am probably going to need to be writing through this so I hope you don’t mind if I send some hope your way in your email inbox in the coming days. Please feel free to forward and share and you can invite others to subscribe here: http://sarahbethmarr.com/heart-hydration/
