Fumbling off the edge
of sickness,
last days where ache
remains, but hope
lights up
the horizon.

What was I,
wondered in haze
of soreness and
insomnia,
before this?  

Such drama,
a time or two
each year,

we swear this
will be the one
that undoes
us.
