IF TWO QUARRELS A THIRD IS HAPPY ;-)
The sandpiper is a type of bird that lives by the water. He loves eating small fish and insects. One day a sandpiper was near the water searching for his next meal, when he discovered a river clam spread open sunning himself. The sandpiper looked hungrily at the clam’s soft white flesh, and suddenly pounced on the clam. He poked his beak right in.
The clam clamped shut instantly on the sandpiper’s beak and trapped him. The sandpiper struggled, still wanting to eat that soft juicy clam but he was unable to move. Then to the clam he mumbled:
“If you always clamp me like this what good is done ? If it doesn’t rain today, tomorrow or the next day, will you be able to survive?”
The clam replied:
“If I don’t let you go today tomorrow or the next day what are the chances of finding a live sandpiper ?”
So both sides remained in this way.
A fisherman came along and without the slightest effort he grabbed them both and left. The sandpiper and the clam found their way onto his dining table.
People sometimes argue with each other endlessly over a small issue. But the result often is a mutual loss whilst benefiting a third party.
If two quarrels a third is happy. I believe we all experienced a similar incident in our lives. How stubborn we sometimes can get over silly issues. Ok, sometimes these issues are not so silly, I admit.
I remember fighting with my buddy Frank over a swab when we both were apprentices in Germany a long time ago. We were both assigned to clean two walk in chillers. Frank had to clean the butcher chiller and I was told to take care of the fruit chiller. Problem was that there was only one swab available. So we started arguing and eventually fighting over the swab. Who would get it?
The Chef came along and immdetiately intervened. He grabbed the swab and took it away from us. The Chef then told us to clean the chillers using a rag and our bare hands. Frank and I thought he was joking. He wasn’t, so we went ahead.
We could not believe what just happened. We watched the chef handing over the swab to another trainee who was supposed to clean the seafood chiller.
I guess Frank and I learned our lesson for this day!
