Pi – Day

The math nerd in me wants you to know. Do with the information as you wish. It is not contagious. It might even help you some day. The standard approximation is 3.14

Some people can recite many more decimal places than just the two listed above. You students/former students know who you are!

The Greek approximation for practical use was 22/7.

Pi is determined by taking the circumference of a circle and dividing by the circle’s diameter. There are other formulas and methods out there, but this is a good basic one and has been used for thousands of years.

It is an irrational number because it does not end or repeat, which is why the above numbers are approximations.

It is used to test computing speeds of computer processors by tasking a computer to calculate the decimal equivalent and see how many places it can get in a set amount of time.

Celebrate responsibly.
