WHY I WRITE THE MORNING PAGES
A job is still a job . How do you keep the tasks that you got to do from becoming mundane and annoying?
And, the answer for me is a solid morning routine.
I have worked very hard to keep up with my morning routine. I have fine tuned the routine many times and it continues to change as I change. Something that has stayed the same over all the time is one of the first things I do every morning.
I write everyday when I wake up.
Why I write every morning?
I have always done some kind of journaling both on paper and digital , but I wasn't always sure how much I need to do or the format that best suits me.
It wasn't until I read Julia Cameron's THE ARTIST'S WAY that I got the clarity I needed.
In this book Cameron talks about doing daily Morning Pages . Her website describes the practice as following:
Morning Pages are three pages of longhand, stream of consciousness writing, done first thing in the morning. There is no wrong way to do Morning Pages– they are not high art. They are not even “writing.” They are about anything and everything that crosses your mind– and they are for your eyes only. Morning Pages provoke, clarify, comfort, cajole, prioritize and synchronize the day at hand. Do not over-think Morning Pages: just put three pages of anything on the page…and then do three more pages tomorrow.
Three Pages. Thats it.
The way she described about stream of consciousness and its benefits completely convonced me.
I have a designated morning pages journal that I write in and then label them when they are filled with the time frame of writing and have them kept in the storage for my child to laugh at some day.
I have also mentioned how morning pages is one of the tool you can incorporate in my book THINK LIKE A BOSS under the chapter the Power of having a routine.
So once i put my thoughts whether positive or negative or I didnt get enough sleep or the previous day was hectic. Instead of letting them sink in me and affecting me further, I prefer putting them on paper which means it has exited from my head.
I write to get in touch with my own ideas.
I have worked through issues that were bothering me and seemed overwhelmed.
I have been better in tune with my intution.
Morning pages have helped me to leave the toxic people and situation that were not doing any good to me.
Morning pages help you understand who you are. When you write about whats on your mind everyday , you start to know yourself more. Cameron says "The pages are a pathway to a strong and clear sense of self".
As a matter of fact this very blog post is happening right after my morning pages today and with my first cup cup of coffee. Coffee is the key more me after the lemon water.
My line of work is to create content that connects people to ideas and resources that elevate them to an intentional life designed on their terms which is my actual mission. Though it sounds as a big responsibility to make it at ease I got to clear head.
Thus I write these for you. Taking this simple step has been the catalyst for a great start to my day everyday . It has been a major personal development for me and it can be for you too.
