Traven stood in his kitchen, his bare feet cold on the tile floor, his toes clenching in agitation as he lifted his coffee cup to his lips, his eyes fixed on a point out of the window above the sink, hundreds of miles away. His mind drifted as he struggled to see what he knew he would never be able to see from his home in Auburndale, Florida. He sighed as his hands pressed tightly against the ceramic mug that held his favorite blend of Starbucks brewed coffee. His golden hazel eyes narrowed as he tried to focus his mind on the image he wanted to see, struggled to bring it into focus when he heard the sound of footsteps behind him."What the hell are you doing Trav?" he heard the deep, rumbly voice of his partner, Joshua, ask from behind him.Closing his eyes as the sweet timbre of his love washed over his senses, Traven turned with a smile towards the only man he would only love. He watched as Joshua stared at him for a moment, his blue eyes staring at him suspiciously only moments before they darkened with need and arousal. They had only made love four hours before and Traven knew that he should be physically exhausted and completely unable to even consider getting aroused, especially at his age, but something had happened when their guests had arrived in town and Traven had felt his body go through an almost physiological change and now it was as if everything about him was younger, stronger, more virile and for a gay man nearing his 40s, that was the greatest news he'd ever heard."I'm just looking out the window," he said, his voice lowering seductively as Joshua walked closer.Joshua looked out of the window and then allowed his blue eyes to settle back on Traven's face, "They're not going to appear in front of the house with big black eyes and green skin you know."Traven rolled his eyes, sometimes Joshua treated him like he was the smartest human in the world, other times he treated him like Traven was some foreign creature he just couldn't understand. "I know that Josh. I just don't know why…if they've been around forever, why now? Why make contact now?" Traven asked Joshua, not for the first time."I can't tell you what's said in those meetings Trav and you know that," Joshua reprimanded him gently before coming to a stop directly in front of Traven. Traven could never truly explain it to others or completely understand it himself, but whenever Joshua stood in front of him, he trembled. It was almost as if Joshua's presence, his spirit, his inner power was wrapping around Traven and squeezing and caressing him all at the same time. A notion that was completely ridiculous and yet described how Traven felt around Joshua perfectly."I know that Joshua and I'm not asking you to tell me what happens in those meetings, I just want to know why they're here. I just want to know if I should worry. If you're safe. If I'm safe…if we're safe, with them being here. In our world. On our planet. In our city and our state," Traven raised his hazel eyes to Joshua's blue ones and allowed the other man to see the fear that he'd tried so hard to keep hidden from everyone. Traven was afraid. Deathly afraid of what the appearance of the aliens actually meant and if life as he knew it was over.Joshua narrowed his eyes at him and then removed the coffee mug from Traven's grasp before putting it on the counter behind him, grabbing hold of Traven, Joshua pulled him close to his body and Traven breathed in deeply of the man who owned him, mind, body and soul and shuddered. He trembled not only in fear of the unknown but at the smell of this man who had entered his life only 9 years before and then had possessed him completely after only two dates. Traven knew that Joshua would do everything in his power to keep them safe, but more than that to keep Traven safe, Joshua would risk his own life."Listen to me Traven Rumario Versuthion…there is no way in hell that you aren't safe. You're mine and no one hurts what's mine. I will protect you until the day that I draw my last breath and even then I will take care of you from the beyond. These aliens that have landed here on our planet are here in a peaceful manner to better our planet. I don't want you to worry though, you, more than any other human on this planet is safe. I've seen to that myself," Joshua assured him and Traven felt peace fill his body. He didn't know why he doubted Joshua, he should've known that the other man would come through for him. He always did."Yes, Joshua Alturniton Lemore Roughshire. Whatever you say," Traven said with a cheeky grin and lifted his face for the kiss he was sure that Joshua would place on his lips. He was right. As the two men kissed passionately in their kitchen, Traven pushed away all thoughts of the aliens that had arrived only days before and the fact that when they had they had asked for all of the world's leaders…and Joshua. No, he wouldn't think about the fact that Joshua was asked for and called by name, because if Joshua told him that he had nothing to worry about then he had nothing to worry about. Plain and simple, end of story. Joshua always told the truth.Always.
