U.S. Political Structure
For the longest time I thought if we just got rid of the electoral college our system would work better.
Then I thought eliminating gerrymandering would fix it.
Then, making voting mandatory.
Then federalizing elections, taking them away from state legislatures.
Then the style of reporting political news: like it’s a sporting event between two teams; dumbing it down, reducing complex issues to only two points of view
Then, perhaps allowing more parties
Will one of these fix it? They’re all good ideas. All of them? Yes, that and more. The system is fundamentally broken. As much as I fear it, some sort of Constitutional Convention, free of party influence and state jurisdictions, facilitated by the best technology, allowing maximum participation, is needed.
What do you think?
