D. Powell I have been saying for years, that there is no such thing as fiction. Only the word and a perceived definition. All "fiction" is true, somewhere in the expanse of time. The universe is vast. I too have written things that have either become truth, or were hidden from my knowledge. "Truth is stranger than fiction"? Truth is fiction.

Stuart Aken Thanks, Dave. I understand your take on this aspect of the thing we refer to as 'fiction', and agree with you. We do, of course, need to make a distinction between those works that purport to be a presentation of facts and those that involve some degree of imagination. For convenience, we separate them into fiction and nonfiction, largely so readers have some concept of what might lurk on the pages.
And it's certainly the case that, when you discover something you initially imagined was a speculative extension of an emerging idea or trend turns out to be validated by scientific research, it brings a feeling of delight. It's great to find speculation turning into actuality, isn't it?
