Crime Of The Week (4)

The law is putting up a fight against our obsession with mobile phones. News has reached that a man in rural New South Wales was spotted by the old Bill, using a mobile phone whilst riding a horse. The culprit had his collar felt and was hauled up before the beak.

Despite the horse only proceeding at a stately 10 kilometres per hour at the time of the offence and the defence lawyer claiming that the matter was “trivial”, the magistrate, David Day, ruled that “under the road rules a horse is a vehicle…and he didn’t have a hands-free device fitted to the horse”.

The accused changed his plea to guilty and was duly fined.
