Is this an authentic Medieval Axe?

I received an email from a web visitor (Max). He bought this axe at an antique store and he is looking for more information about it. He believes that the axe head is authentic and actually antique but the handle is probably new. And I agree with him. And that symbol of an eagle on the axe is very very german. I suspect this is an authentic German axe from who knows how long ago!
