The concept of heaven and hell has always made me question why so many people flock to church to pray to God just to make sure they are on the right side of the fence. I see so many men and women dressed in the most elegant clothes on a Sunday morning awaiting the time they can prove to God that they are worthy to walk through the gates of heaven. If their shirt is a little dirty, maybe God might question their faith and drop them to the back of the line.
Do get me wrong, I love Sundays just as much as the next guy and spend many of them at my church. I even read passages from the bible when my Reverend Calls my name, but I don’t think you can find a real relationship with God just because you put on your best suit or some fancy dress? God needs to be felt wherever you stand. I’m not trying to diminish what the church represents because I genuinely believe it has answers and beautiful people that can help God come alive. I’ve seen it with my own eyes. It may be hidden inside four walls, but if you look beyond the bells and listen with your heart, you will find a voice that has always been present.
However, if you can’t feel that voice sitting in a pew on a Sunday morning, don’t beat yourself up and think you are somehow less of a person. Don’t for a second think that someone who goes to church a couple of times a week is more worthy of God’s love than you. It is not a competition. I do recommend that you do go to church and see for yourself, but if you can’t feel God at church, don’t let that be your last stop. If anything, I believe it will give you a different perspective. You can find God anywhere if you’re looking for him, but don’t limit yourself to only one location, one hour a week. Gods everywhere if you know how to look for him.
