A gritty, insightful read! Love the story about Boyle, and the ‘tough love’ we writers need to keep us going even in the dark times. Love how you describe readers being handy with weaponry. Yep. Also love that you compare writing to the craft of magic. Truth. Sometimes it’s scary, sometimes it’s wonderful, but the choice to be a writer isn’t, as you say, always a choice. It simply is. Wouldn’t have it any other way.
