Opinions, Palindromes, and the Super Bowl!
Settle in for a bit... it'll be worth it!
First, we'll start with the Super Bowl, because, in case you didn't hear, it's Super Bowl Sunday! ;)
If you're like me, you'll be watching, hoping for a great game, a worthwhile halftime show, and better-than-last-year commercials. Yes, I truly enjoy football. Hubby loves it, having played in HS and missed his calling to become a coach (in my humble opinion). But we'll get to opinions in a bit... I grew up watching football because mom and dad watched. My mom was famous for yelling, cursing, and cheering louder than anyone on the block! And if you were to watch ME watch football, you'd see I did indeed inherit that quality. I save my exuberance mostly for college football, but NFL gets my attention too. And this year the match-up is between spectacular teams with skillful players, so it shouldn't be a blow-out. Do I have a prediction or preference? Nope, because I like both teams and respect their talent and both deserve victory. I know that's not what will happen but I won't be upset no matter who win.
And if you're not watching the game, you'll no doubt hear or see reports about it because it'll be all over social media... that is if you'll be on social media. If you've got your hands filled with a great read, kudos! Enjoy!
Palindromes: A word, phrase, number, sentence or any sequence of symbols or elements that can be interpreted the same forward or backward. Like: radar, civic, level, madam, stats. Yep, got that right off Google! And today so happens to be a numerical palindrome: 02/02/2020
What does that mean to you and me? Well, it's kinda cool, and maybe you're of the mindset to think it's a lucky day, so you better go buy a lottery ticket. ;) Or maybe it's just another day to you. Either way, I thought it'd be fun to mention.
Opinions! Yes, everyone has them and many think theirs need to be heard. After all, this is the day and age when you can pretty much say or do whatever you want and there are little to no consequences. Like right now, I have an opinion on opinions! (Imagine that!)
Sure, I can say how I feel or what I think about a particular subject, but I'm damn sure going to see to it that I have facts (as best as I can gather) about that subject. I'm not going to fly off the handle because something enrages me. And that's mostly what people are doing these days - spouting off about what makes them mad! Is that going to make them feel better? I guess. I mean, yeah, I get mad, upset, enraged about 'things' and I may have a short fuse (per hubby) but I try to think things through before opening my mouth... because I've learned over time the negative consequences about NOT thinking before I act or speak. (Apparently wisdom did come with age for me.) ;) It's more like education and maturity and paying attention to what's happening in the world around me.
People also have opinions and/or viewpoints about something that doesn't necessarily make then angry, they just feel the need to comment about what's 'trending'. Will their comment make a difference? Maybe, but probably not. I know that sounds negative, but it's reality. For instance, the horrible incident of Kobe Bryant's death. Yes, it's devastating, but not to me, to his family and close friends. I don't mean that in a callous way, it's just fact. I didn't personally know the man so it had no direct impact on my life. What I DID know was that he was a loving family man, an outstanding athlete, and a truly inspirational person; and the world is a little less bright with him gone from this earth. And don't even get me started on the loss of his daughter, who had so much life and potential ahead of her. (Insert tears) So yeah, there's my opinion.
What I'd LOVE to search out and see is more positive opinions, more uplifting of others, and more solutions to so-called problems and incidences that enrage society. So my challenge to not only myself, but to you as well is to seek out something positive and spread the word. It can be daily, weekly, monthly... whatever you feel you want to commit to... but find more joy and positivity in life, and spread that like warm butter on perfectly toasted sourdough!
And if you're of the mindset to sit back and let those who best deal with those situations, deal with those situations, that's fine too.
Don't be stifled from saying or writing what you want, because you never know who is listening or reading, and the impact it could have. I guess I just ask for more positive influence rather than negativity.
Today brought to mind the song by Justin Timberlake ft. Chris Stapleton, "Say Something". It's powerful and so true! If you haven't seen the video (or it's been a while) refresh yourself.

But let's end this post on a teary beautiful video and remember what's important in your world.

And with that, I'll wish you all a fabulous week filled with what makes you happy!
