Traditional Holy Trinity Squares in Hungary

Picture Kőszeg A traditional feature of most larger towns and cities in Hungary is a centrally located pedestrian square containing a church or cathedral and a Holy Trinity column. The churches tend be breathtaking all on their own, but the beautiful details contained within the Holy Trinity columns are often far more accessible and easier to register.

Placed in close proximity to each other within squares nestled in the heart of a town or city, the columns and churches create an ambiance and serenity that is uniquely Central European in character. And despite the similarities, every Holy Trinity Square has its own unique features and, fittingly enough, its own atmosphere and charm. How these beautiful, uplifting, and holy places managed to survive nearly fifty years of communism is beyond me - but thank God they did.    Picture Szekszárd Picture Sopron Picture Budapest
