I wonder of you, often in times like these. I wonder what you’d...

I wonder of you, often in times like these. I wonder what you’d think of this place, in this time. I wonder of your dream, of how it would grow, especially here, especially now. I wonder if you’d smile, if you’d sigh, if you’d look around with disbelief that still, after all this time, there is cause to resist, to fight on. I wonder if you’d be proud of the steps we have taken, of the progress we have made. I think your fist would raise to the sky hearing chants of Obama, I think you’d have chanted, too. I wonder of you, often, today more than all days. Thank you, though that’s thin and hollow, I say it still. Your dream is my dream is our dream and I hope you know we still dream it, we still hold it sacred and dear, we still whisper of it with reverence and courage. Hear me when I say we will try to do better, try to do more, try to lean into hatred only with love. This is your day, and I am so sorry we need it. I wish you were here, 360 some steps into your nineties, slower, softer, wrinkled, brave. Here’s to you, here’s always to you.
