Study the sounds
and find peace in them,
a slight wind
in a tall tree,
some shaking from
footsteps in the bathroom
above.  This is your voice
tired from early morning,
this is the cracking
of my smile.
Motion has a noise,
louder when closer
and I know when you’re near,
silence too, a melody,
like waves
on the shoreline
of my eardrums, steady
rhythm of nothing.
