Far far far away is where I wanna go. I find myself getting so restless with the state of things, with the game that is self-promotion when running a small business like I do. So tired of wondering why people are unfollowing and what that could mean for book sales, wondering how to pay the bills with how little money books actually make you. This is not a complaint, but a statement of truth, it’s exhausting trying to figure out social media and its machinations, trying to know when to post, what stupid hashtags to use, trying to decipher why people unfollow when you believe in the content you’re posting. Wondering if I should only post short poetry here, leaving the longer things that I love writing the most for myself, for books, for a different place entirely? I don’t know the answers but I just am so tired of the strange world Instagram and Facebook and Twitter have created, I long for some simple life in some simple place where I only use a phone to call, and with nothing but a worn voice, say I love you. That is all. That’s always been all.
