Cohen called it
a mandate
to enter the dark,
said it was called down
from a deity
he dared not name,
threw hyphens
in place of o’s
out of respect.

Poetry is an order
shouted silently
to not stand still
at the edge
of some black forest,
but to wander in
and inside it
build what we may
once, call
home.
