At Last, Accountability

For the first time in his cruel, racist, abusive, mendacious, privileged life, Donald Trump has been held accountable for his actions. A majority of Congresspersons, representing a majority of Americans, have done all they can do to protect and defend our country from Donald Trump’s crimes. The American people have spoken, and the American people believe Donald Trump abused his power and obstructed Congress, in violation of the laws of our nation.

The trial of Donald Trump is over. Donald Trump is undeniably guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors. The evidence is overwhelming and indisputable.  As President of the United States of America, he violated his oath of office, he broke the laws of our nation, and he has been held accountable by the American people.

Now, a new trial will begin. It is, in many ways, more consequential and more urgent than the trial of Donald Trump.

This will be the trial of the Republican Party, and the result of this trial is as important, if not more important, than the trial of Donald Trump. The trial about to begin is no longer about a single man and his crimes. This trial is about nothing less than the future of America, as a Republic, and as a Western Liberal Democracy.

Which, thanks to gerrymandering, voter suppression, conservative media monopolies in many states, and the use of this presidency to pack the courts with conservative judges, they're likely to get a free ride through. I really fear for the future of this country.

Well said! I fear that you are completely correct.

I think perhaps you should look at what you wrote to determine who is the idiot! Whereas it is true the Senate will hold hearings to remove the POTUS, we already know that will not happen the way the Senate is currently proportioned. The House has held him and his crooked administration accountable!

Maybe consider speaking like a grown adult capable of having a rational, mature discussion, rather than an angry child who missed the point of what Wil said? Just a thought.

Stacy What a terrible burden, Robert, it must be to be the most intelligent person in the world.

message 9: by Stacy (new)

Stacy Oh wow snowflakes! What an intelligent and unique "insult!" However did you come up with something so fresh and new?? Surely the smartest man on earth came up with this all on his own, and didn't learn it from his right-wing overlords.

"I despise stupidity," says the man who misunderstood this entire post, can't put together a coherent sentence, and can't get through 3 typed words without a glaring grammatical or spelling error. If you despise stupidity, you must have a hard time looking in the mirror each day.

Robert You make a wrong assumption I support Trump. I do not. I'm not typing on a phone right now, and you are right that I do make typos on my phone with its stupid auto correct. However you're not dealing with my main point which was that according to the constitution the trial is held in the senate. Trump was not tried in the house. The house impeachment proceedings are akin to a grand jury. So what you're doing is deflecting away from the fact that Wil made a very wrong , incorrect statement. And such statements cause a lot of confusion, errors and mis-judgement in the part of individuals. Hell there are idiots running around thinking he's out of office now. Just as bad as the Trump supporters saying he can run for a third term.
But that isn't something you want to deal with? Truth doesn' t matter. Only your feelings. So what do you do, focus on personal attacks because you cannot win on facts and truth. Say what you want, that is deserving of contempt because you are a despicable person. Chances are you're also very bigoted, racist, and hate anyone or anything that intrudes into your little closed off world. You and all the others like you. OH..Orange man bad therefore facts don't matter. My feelings are hurt. No, you're an NPE cry all you want, critique all you want. What I said is correct and being correct is all that is important. Go play in your sandbox, eat your pre-made meals, and make up facts as you go along. One day you'll learn that you were wrong when you get older and turn into everything you despise, just like every other closeted bigoted liberal. Unable to face the realities of life or work--or any hardship.

Have a wonderful new year and I wish you lots of success, happiness, and all you deserve..Stacy

Well aware of how this all works. I haven't once said anything about impeachment or how it works, so you have no reason to assume I'm less informed than you.
I wasn't addressing Wil's comments because I believe you misconstrued them, and you acted like an angry manchild while trying to prove your point. Not once have you been able to act like an adult with a valid point, instead you immediately resorted to name calling, then got upset about "personal attacks" against you. Please grow up.

message 17: by Robert (new)

Robert True, but noone dealt with my initial comment and started in on the insults to me...to which I responded. IN terms of Wil, I've made several comments on his posts and all except this thread have exuded positivity (sp) In terms of this last thread, I apologize to Wil for calling him idiot, but that was based on all the mindless comments made about this whole impeachment debacle..but in terms of the others, no, even when I responded without insult, I was insulted therefore its game on.... and I like how you misquote me:
The actual quote was: But that isn't something you want to deal with? Truth doesn' t matter. Only your feelings. Mr. Roger, if you're going to make a point, do it in context.

Your initial comment was "You're an idiot Wil." Then told him he basically needs to shut up and learn something. So again... you started with the insults. You acted like a child. You barely made a point and then got upset when people responded to you in the same manner you responded to Wil. Hypocrisy, thy name is Robert.

Someone needs to learn to spell and type correctly before going on a rant if they wish to be taken seriously.

message 23: by Robert (new)

Robert You are correct grammatical errors are more important than factual ones.

message 24: by Susan (new)

Susan Chappell Who can tell if your "factual" points are correct. Can't tell from all of the mistakes. The fact is will the idiots step up and do the right thing or not. See grammatically easier to read and agree with or reject.

Actually even with the insults and grammatical errors, it is easy to understand his point. Robert is technically right, the trial happens in the Senate, not the House of Representatives. President Trump has been convicted of nothing at this writing, only accused.

Will Wheaton is wrong on the Impeachment statements, but his larger point does remain valid that the Republicans may end up on trial themselves and pay a price. He uses hyperbole on the American people and the larger idea of conviction, which that is both fine and certainly his right. However factually, he is wrong. Technically, President Trump will be "judged" by the American people November 2020, assuming he wins the Republican nomination and is not removed from office by conviction in the Senate.

Actually I have plenty of hope for the country. We are split politically as a nation, but I do not see that as a bad thing in of it self. Lots of hot air about how much everyone hates President Trump, so what? Do you think if Senator Clinton would have won, there would be any less screaming or we would be any less divided? It would be every bit as loud, just from the other side. BTW, for those of you that think she was cheated from 2016, think about this tidy fact. Over half the country voted against Senator Clinton too.

As for your points, all valid, but both sides participate in your points. Gerrymandering is as old as the nation and it has never been overturned as a political tool. Both sides use it to their advantage. Whether that is fair or not does not really matter because it is legal.

As for media, both sides have large audiences and for every valid critical comment about conservative media, there is every bit a valid criticism of liberal media. They tend to balance each other out.

The court packing critical comment is both valid and upsetting do to the truth of the statement. Yet, once again both sides do this when they are in power. The reason it is so fraught with trouble right now can be blamed on one Senator. Harry Reid ended the filibuster on Judicial picks below the Supreme Court. It was both shortsighted and truly a blunder. Senator Reid did this because the Democrats could not get Obama picks through the process. There was plenty of crowing by the Democrats when this was done, but then they lost the Senate the next election and the Republicans have run with it. If it is any consolation, when the Democrats regain Senate control, they will do the same packing. It is what politicians do. If President Trump is reelected and the Democrats regain control of the Senate, they will not approve another Judicial pick of Trump's.
