What will you take, what will you keep,
what all will you hold
from the day or the hours that swirl now
like seawater between stones?
Will it be the sound of footsteps in
heather, soggy with more rainfall
than they’d seen in 80 some years,
will it be pipe songs echoing off
the walls of the mountain range
that held us, will it be the contrast
of warm tears on cold cheeks?

I will take the light behind your eyes,
glowing like aflame, like torch fire
hidden under shallow sea,
I will take the sound of my own voice
cracking like Spring ice, I will keep
the soft light and rainbow mirrored
over old bridge, the softness
of your lips as mine met them
in the middle of the glen.  

Whatever you keep, whatever
remains from that time carved
slice of fairytale, let there be room
for me.
