The Trouble With Twitter

In case anyone’s found their way here from my Twitter feed, and wonders why there’s been some radio silence at that end, the answer is simple – I’ve had my account suspended, have appealed and am waiting on re-instatement. I have no idea how long the appeal process habitually takes, or indeed how long this one will last. In the event that the appeal is rejected, who knows, it may last forever, since I have no intention of backing down from what was a thoroughly fit-for-purpose piece of vitrio...

Laifalath Sorry, but you deserve the ban badly!
You have insulted strangers in a bad manner just because of the thought about historical incidents. There's no excuse for your behaviour. Please reconsider your manner of speaking.

You stated yourself:

(The subtext being that hoary old chestnut "well, they must be doing something to deserve it, amirite, eh? nudge, nudge, wink, wink"). Really odd, right? My off-the-cuff response was this:
Not really – all those different cultures and places contain xenophobic cunts like you. And unless the rule of law and basic human decency keeps cunts like you in check, then you rise in cowardly mobs and go in search of easy targets like the scum you are.

Did you get what you've done wrong?

message 2: by Michael (new)

Michael It would be interesting to see context in which he said this. And even in absence of this, I am not quite sure that this warrants a ban on twitter. He seems to be responding to someone he was engaged with, not villy nilly going around and randomly cuss at strangers.

It's quite clear he doesn't and neither do I. Are you perhaps American?

Well, do you insult people because of arbitrary reasons, too? "Cunt"/"Scum" is no legal argument, no matter what location you are.
Mr. Morgan stated no legal reason to justify his toxic speakings. On the contrary, he also frankly admitted that he'd prompted someone "to fuck off and die". So he deserved the ban.

I live in a country where you can be jailed if you are an antisemite. So, it's ridiculous in what ways Mr. Morgan dares to believe to see antisemitism. It's like "snowflake behaviour" of SJW's.
Naturally I check my position when Mr. Morgan is really able to give legal reasons for his cussings. But the other way, also legal reasons are no excuse for dirty language of "white trash".

message 5: by George (new)

George Christie You don't need a legal argument to insult am anti-Semite. What's most incredible is you wrote all that and still failed to answer my very simple question. In fact you wrote a great deal and said nothing. Amazing

message 6: by Laifalath (new)

Laifalath @George
I see. You don't want to debate. You're just looking for a reason to attack my person.

You don't need a legal argument to insult am anti-Semite.
Amazing, this statement is really fascistic. In what way do you determine who is an anti-semite?
We judge about you, resistance is futile! This way you sound right now.

We still live in a world in which someone is innocent until his/her alleged guilty is proofed. So don't waste my time if you have nothing to say at all.

message 7: by Pep (new)

Pep Laifalath's profile location is Hamburg, Germany, so an inadequate comprehension of English is unsurprising.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

What on earth is going on? Who is the cunt in question?

I miss you on here. I'm not really into twitter, although I do have to manage my work's account. Maybe I will follow you on there to keep abreast of your internet fights 🙂

Sounds like discrimination by ethnic origin.

What is "inadequate comprehension" in insulting?

message 10: by Pep (new)

Pep Your incoherent last sentence demonstrates my point conclusively. No ethnic discrimination is involved, merely understandable linguistic inadequacy. augmented by the Dunning-Kruger Effect.

message 11: by Laifalath (last edited Nov 16, 2019 12:05PM) (new)

Laifalath @Pep
Well, you want to allege me the "Dunning–Kruger effect" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning...).

You have no arguments, no reason to debate. You just want to discredit my persona just because I'm not a native english speaker. So you are obviously affected by your mentioned Dunning-Kruger Effect.

Do you have any eligible argument, that the cited twitter messages done by Mr. Morgan are not insultings?

By the way, to underrate a person's abilities by its language *is* discrimination.

message 12: by Pep (new)

Pep Sorry, Laifalath, every one of your utterances reinforces my belief that your poor comprehension of English would render any opinion you express invalid, even if you were accidentally to present it in a remotely semi-coherent fashion. Unfortunately for you, it is impossible to distinguish someone who is semi-literate in their native English, and an ESLer who mistakenly believes they are competent.

Laifalath Pep wrote: "Sorry, Laifalath, every one of your utterances reinforces my belief that your poor comprehension of English would render any opinion you express invalid, even if you were accidentally to present it..."

Pep, thanks for your compassionate words. But you ignore the fact that this discussion is all about the question of whether insults are a legitimate means of communication.
Well, I see that this does not work out here. I do not have the strength and stamina to fight against arrogance. So quietly offend all people who are different and do not live up to your opinion. Seems to be legitimate in your opinion.
But do not start crying when you are the victim and nobody wants to stand by your side. Insults and mobbing are no trivial offense!

(This time with google translated. I hope this english is more understandable for you.)
Luckily, I know that not all English-speakers are so arrogant. I wonder how you would have argued if you had not spied that I am not from Little Britain.

message 14: by George (new)

George Christie Hysterical as this is, I mean someone defending anti-Semites calling those who don't stand for anti-Semitism fascists is a new one on me, I'm checking out on this. A final summation. Anti-Semites are trash and would always be called out as such. There need be no "legal" argument. Morality and legality are not the same thing, nor should they be. Defending anti-semetic behavior is just as abhorrent as the behavior itself. Twitter is a joke for banning RKM.

message 15: by Pep (new)

Pep Lafalath: You have not understood what I have said, just as you have not understood what RKM has said, and using Google Translate to attempt to present your miscomprehension (slightly) less badly, does not mitigate the inadequacy of your communications. You would do better to stick to forums and other interactive media where you might be able to understand the words, and comment in a language where you are proficient. This would not include English language interactions. It is not inconceivable that RKM has been banned from Twitter because some hysterical reader with an incomplete grasp of English has misunderstood his comments and complained - and some equivalently disadvantaged moderator has acted upon the complaint. I shall now not dignify your ignorance with further comment,

message 16: by Laifalath (new)

Laifalath Well, now I got it. Damn it!
Pep and George Christie are darn internet trolls and I was so stupid to feed them.
Never forget: Don't feed the trolls!

message 17: by Pep (new)

Pep A troll is someone with whom you disagree - who is right.

Remember that scene early in Altered Carbon where you get blasted in the retina with torrents of steaming pornographic and advertising bullshit and propaganda without blockers? That's Twitter. Quit Twitter Mr. Morgan.
