Typewriter Series #2773 by Tyler Knott Gregson

So long I’ve been doing this,
and it seems to be slowing down,
not speeding up.  
There were many of you, once,
so many that leaned in
and listened,
I was a single voice for a time,
words in an endless field
of images, then more came,
then more, some sounded as
I did, borrowed words from me,
permission-less, but what was one
to do?  

Less now, I drown in an ocean
I helped fill with letters,
with ache.  What I say
is so hardly a ripple anymore,
no one hears these
screams.  

Today, so many cling to short words,
to repetition manufactured
to seem monumental,
to the same cliche rearranged
to seem new, time and time
again.  

I’m still here, pouring out what
keeps refilling in me,
and one day, I’ll be the only one
to listen.
