Cocktail: You Came a Long Way from Lihue

This song has been my jam of 2019. So when I recently picked up a bottle of The Funk and successfully incorporated its bodacious eccentricity into a cocktail, naming this new mixture was a no brainer. Sip this one slowly. It’s hypnotic. Much like Nohelani Cypriano’s amazing album, which you should track down as soon as you can.

YOU CAME A LONG WAY FROM LIHUE

1 oz. The Funk Jamaican rum

1 oz. O.F.T.D. Plantation rum

.5 oz. orange Curaçao

.75 oz. fresh squeezed lime juice

.25 oz. honey syrup

.25 oz. rich demerara syrup

1/8 teaspoon of Pernod or Herbsaint

dash of Angostura bitters

Fill a small tumbler or tiki mug with crushed ice. Combine all ingredients, shake well with cubed ice, and strain into your chosen drinkware. Add more crushed ice to fill and garnish as desired. Serve with a straw.
