A Merry Christmas/Winter Solstice to all!

A week ago I was in Minneapolis at Uncle Hugo's, signing books and talking to people. Old friends and new showed up, about a dozen in all. On the whole, I would say it was quite successful.

Now I'm home alone on Xmas Eve, trying to get Jame into the Southern Wastes. She'll be traveling in the winter, so the temperature shouldn't be too harsh, except for the nights. Instead of camels (which are almost too fantastic in themselves to duplicate), I'm thinking of using giant, modified monitor lizards. The wagons they pull are another problem. What to mount them on? Wheels will work for the desert floor but not so well for sand dunes, which one can't always go around. Skids? Primitive tank tracks? Thus I amuse myself with wild surmise while listening to Christmas carols. Ah, the writer's life.
