Tuning up photosynthesis to feed the world

Helping plants use more of the sun’s energy would boost crop productivity and feed our hungry planet.

Imaginarium Or... instead of messing up with plants to use more of the Sun's energy we could push the world to move toward plant based diet (or better yet - veganism). This way you save land, water, energy, animals - both wildlife and farm animals, and you can get nutritious food for all the people on this planet.

Jerry Smith lol, 'more of the sun's energy' I think we're ok there.

Robert Dummies commenting don't understand what Bill is talking about. This is about engineering plants that are more energy efficient meaning that a greater portion of the sun's energy that reaches the plant is available for photosynthesis (rather than being reflected, absorbed as heat, etc)

Arun Kumar Thiruvel Murugaesan Nehru Dear Bill, I understand that you're concerned about food being available to all humans. But don't we also respect nature in certain things? especially when it come to evolution. Plants work the way they are because that's the ecology's demand after million's of years of evolution right? I know we humans don't qualify for these moral concerns after making lot of changes on nature in last 300 years. Is it possible for you to share your thoughts on these questions?

Paula Have fewer people to feed would help, also. The population connection. Hunter-gatherer- we evolved to eat meat.

Jiliac Everything we eat is the result of heavy domestication and not evolution. All crops (rice, wheat, corn) we use cannot be found in nature; same for fruits or any vegetable. Applicable to animals as well: you wouldn't find a pig in nature.
