This an eve unlike all others
that have come before it,
this the final night
I will ever again
feel alone.
Sleep will not come,
I know this as true, it will
elude and run as though
chased. This mind will sing
every song it’s learned
in the years I spent without you.
Next to me, a final time
as unjoined,
will you hear me
humming?
Meet me in dreams,
we said so many times,
miles apart and hurting
in unspoken ways.
I say it now, inches from
your sleeping face,
hours only hours
from calling you
wife.
