Trees
I wrote a book (What We Take for TruthWhat We Take for Truth) that takes place in a tiny town in the North Cascade Mountains of Washington State. The whole place is surrounded by huge trees, mostly evergreens. Trees play a major role in the story.
A couple of other books, both of them quite amazing reads, have come out lately that focus on trees: The Hidden Life of Trees: What They Feel, How They Communicate – Discoveries from a Secret WorldThe Hidden Life of Trees by Peter Wohlleben (nonfiction), and The Hidden Life of Trees: What They Feel, How They Communicate – Discoveries from a Secret WorldThe Overstory by Richard Powers (ficton). If you haven't read them, stop right now and do yourself a favor. The Overstory is a beautiful read and if you enjoy fiction full of well-developed, odd and marvelous characters and rich description as well as lots of tension, this is for you. The Hidden Life of Trees is a summation of the recent discoveries about how interconnected and reactive trees are. You'll never look at a tree the same way after reading this.
I've always been a tree lover and I associate many significant stages in my life with specific trees. I'd love to hear about the trees in your life, evergreen or deciduous, apple or mango, seedling or towering old growth.
