One cup becomes two
then three,
the light in the hills to the West
pools in puddles,
little ovals of shine all oblong
between pine groves
and grass brown from
summer’s heat.  

All the weather comes
from there to here,
passes over slow
and purposeful,
from up here you can see
it coming long before
it arrives.  

There’s more to say
than I can say
of this simplicity.
