My sad experiences with independent publishing through Amazon.

- It takes at the bare minimum of three weeks for proof copies or stock to be shipped to NZ.

- Packages often get lost in transit. Right now I have orders of other books arriving in my mailbox, even though they were ordered weeks after the proof of my own book was shipped. It still hasn't arrived as of today.

- When packages do eventually arrive, they very rarely ever get here without some kind of small damage to the books.

- When talking to Amazon customer support about the missing proof, instead of treating me like a desperate author who is half-a-month late for release and that my livelihood might depend on such a thing, they just treat me like I'm just a regular customer ("we're sorry, please wait another three weeks and get back to us if it hasn't arrived").

Its sad that my previous excitement about independent publishing after having a positive experience with my first book has now led to this. I'll have to reconsider my publishing options going forward.
