Maybe I should try to find that book and read it.
Your words also reminded me of Mikhail Bakhtin who, besieged by Germans in Russia during WW2 and out of tobacco paper, literally smoked the only copy of his manuscript (containing ten years of work). His rationale was, once he had thought of his ideas and put them on paper, the rest was none of his concern.
A true artist! (though he was a literary critic and philosopher)
