Well Done
Sitting under the tent, watching the color guard fold our great nation’s flag that had covered the casket, I was wondering. The service celebrating my Daddy's life was coming to a close. Did we choose well? Would Daddy have been pleased with the song selections? Having the service on what would have been his 85th birthday? I'm pretty certain he would have been pleased with the presence of the Marines and the message. But there are just some things you wonder about, mostly because you can't ask. Just then, there was a strong, cool rush of breeze that ruffled the tent and made the overhang flap loudly. Others noticed. It was definitely spiritual. I closed my eyes and whispered, thank you Lord. My Daddy is home. And he is pleased.
And while I so wanted to know my earthly father was pleased with my care of him, I also want my heavenly Father to be pleased with my service to Him. I'm not perfect. No one is. But am I living my life in a way that reflects who He is, and that I am indeed His child?
Loved ones, the Bible tells us explicitly how to live our lives pleasingly to God. To honor our parents and to love one another, to name a few. And that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. In light of all the instructions He has given, let us study His Word. Let us love each other well and do our best to honor the Lord with our lives. As much as I want to know my Daddy was pleased, even more so, I want my Father to one day say to me, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” I know my Daddy heard those words the 26th of August. If you don't know my Savior, my Daddy would urge you to seek Him while He may be found. I do, too. And I pray you will one day hear those sweet words welcoming you Home.
