Writing Tip: Don’t be afraid to slash and burn

I deleted two chapters today and I feel good. Okay, not great, but good. No writer likes to delete their words. We want to think that everything we write is amazing when we write it and worth reading … but it’s…Read more ›

Cynthia Dalton If only your publisher would accept a synopsis like: my characters get involved in a mysterious situation and solve it.

LOL -- Yes, "Stuff happens and the good guys win."

This series is coming out from MIRA, a new-to-me publisher. So I'm trying to follow the rules! I'm hoping after a couple of books they'll let me do what my other two publishers did -- write one page about the basic story, and then not hold me to it.

Cybercrone Hi:
When I click the button for your website when I'm on Goodreads the page it takes me to is 404.
I'd love to read your website, especially the bits about writing. My son, in his 40s, has just finished a couple of things - his beginner stuff, and he said he was so proud that when he submitted them to an editor he was farting rainbows and watching his phone for Stephen Spielberg's invitation to lunch (one of the things was a screenplay).
Well, you know what happened. Reality intruded with a forceful thud in the form of advice for deletions, changes and character enlargements. I've read enough of what has been written on writing by writers to know that that was bound to happen.
But he also has found a strange joy in working to make them better, so I would love to read the rest of your slashing post and then send it on to the kid.

Yikes! This was a link to when I had a separate blog for my articles, but last year I incorporated it with my website and I didn't realize that these old links would no longer work.

Here's the link to my website and the list of blog articles. There might be a few others your son will find useful. I also wrong one about doubt about when I was really struggling.

.... Well, I can't link here, Goodreads won't let me. So if you go to my website (allisonbrennan (dot) com) and click on the "news" heading, that'll take you to a list of my blogs ...

Thanks for letting me know about this! I'll try and figure out a way to get those old links to redirect to my webpage ...

~ Allison
