Nepal Langtang book published in English

Nepal Langtang book has now published also in English. Both the hardback and paperback edition are for sale on Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, Amazon.it, Amazon.es and Bookdepository.com.

The book is abundantly illustrated as well as my previous books India and Nepal : truth is stranger than fiction and Everest, Nepal and Jimmy Carter

I first travelled to India and Nepal in the summer of 1984. That was a hair-raising trip which included a great deal of trouble and hardship, and this journey is told in the book “India and Nepal – Truth is stranger than fiction”. Half a year after returning home, in the winter of 1985, I couldn’t hold myself back any longer and impulsively bought airplane tickets to Nepal in the middle of my university semester. A week later I was already in Kathmandu and went trekking in Langtang for two weeks.

In 1985, it was still customary to begin the trek to Langtang from the valley of Trisuli. The road being built to Dhunche and Ganesh Himal destroyed the mountain area’s natural beauty, and already in the spring of the following year the trip to Langtang had been shortened by a couple of days. In the next decade, Nepal descended into a ten-year-long civil war which took its toll also on tourism and trekking, but the worst calamity of all struck Nepal and Langtang just before this book was published in its original Finnish version in 2015. The earthquake destroyed Langtang Valley and extensive mountainous areas in Nepal, and the valley of Langtang was so badly hit that it had to be emptied completely and all the local inhabitants had to be evacuated. In 2018, the Langtang valley is again open for hiking, and tourists are slowly returning there
