Why I'm Writing Magic Realism

I hope you are all enjoying THE BOOK CHARMER and Dove Pond.

Several readers have asked why I'm now writing books in the magic realism genre. It's simple -- the news and our social media platforms are filled with so much negativity, far more than ever before. Magic is about control, whether it's the ability to make a potion that helps someone fall in love or being able to cast a spell that allows you to fly away on a carpet. That's why magic is so appealing right now, because it allows our characters (and thus us, as we read) to enjoy the power of these special abilities so that the world feels a little less out of control.

I hope you enjoy your visit to Dove Pond. I'm working on Book II right now and it's such a fun adventure. THE BOOK CHARMER had the theme of community and the power of friends and family, especially chosen family. The next book, A CUP OF SILVER LININGS is about Ava Dove and her journey which consists of love and loss, and how you can't experience one without the other. That sounds very serious, and it is, but I promise there are numerous smiles in the book as well. :)The Book Charmer

Lissa I also think magic is about ethical use of power. You can choose to do good things or bad things. And unintended vs intended effects. Libary copy of Book Charmer FINALLY comes to me this weekend,

Mary So glad I found The Book Charmer! The magical element came as a surprise to me & I loved it. I am one of those people who secretly believes in Santa Claus and all the good he represents. I need to believe in some magic in these scary times. Thanks!
