There is a lesser known Nordic myth about how Ullr, the son of Sif, has to go down into the underworld Niflheim(the world of eternal winters) during summer because Asgardian summers are just too hot for him since he is the god of winter. It is in the underworld where he meets Hel, Loki’s daughter and starts a relationship with her. However he can go back to his mother when it gets colder.
What’s doubly fun is that Sif is a goddess of harvest and fertility so nothing growing in winter could be a connection to how she focuses all her time on her son during those months.
It’s like an inverted Hades and Persephone. When Ullr is gone in the summer his mom does her job and stops during winter because she wants to focus on him.
