What 007 and Ariel Tell Us About Hollywood

'The name is Lynch. Lashana Lynch. She’s the British actress who is rumored to be the new 007 in the next James Bond movie. Lynch is the first woman, and person of color, to assume the mantle of 007. She most recently appeared in the blockbuster Captain Marvel, as the superhero’s best friend and fighter pilot, Maria Rambeau.  The Bond rumor comes weeks after another black actress, Halle Bailey, was announced as the new Ariel in a live-action reboot of The Little Mermaid.  Both announcements have shaken and stirred the Internet, and Hunter Harris , a staff writer at New York Magazine’s Vulture, joined The Takeaway to talk through both announcements, and what they mean for representation in Hollywood.'
