Don’t ignore your offline writing community

Conferences are great, but get active in your local community. Go to readings, attend book launches regardless if you’re familiar with the author or their genre of writing. Join local writing groups where you meet in person. Other writers should be your first true fans (not counting friends and family) and opportunities to spread your work come to life when you’re willing to engage with the offline community.
