Some things are known things,
without doubt or question, believed
from the beginning, held true
through trial and tribulation,
through time and distance,
through all the sea could throw
in our direction, through wave,
through wind.

Some things are solid things,
hard as whale bone, structural
and enduring, the foundations
laid years before we knew
all that we would build atop them.

I knew you and you me
instantly as more than all others,
known and believed when it was
young hands we held.  
You knew me and I you,
solid as a promise, hard as
bone from the start of this,
but even still, leaking just enough oil,
to light up the dark.
