And now let's meet novelist Gail Pallotta, author of the teen sports mystery, Stopped Cold (Prism Imprint of Pelican Book Group, May 2019).

Gail Pallotta’s a wife, Mom, swimmer, and bargain shopper who loves God, beach sunsets, and getting together with friends and family. A regional Writer of the Year for American Christian Writers Association in 2004, she was a 2013 Grace Awards finalist and a Reader’s Favorite 2017 Book Award winner.

Gail has published five books, poems, short stories, and several hundred articles. Some of her articles appear in anthologies while two are in museums.

Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.

I have lots of good southern recipes handed down from my grandmother. There’s no telling how old some of them are, if they came from her mother, grandmother, etc.

How fun. I love the legacy aspect of that.

Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Stopped Cold.

This story shows readers they’ve all been given a gift or gifts from God to use for him, and their lives are worthwhile.

Things aren’t what they seem in peaceful Mistville, North Carolina. Margaret McWhorter enjoys a laid-back Freshman year in high school swimming and hanging out with friends. Suddenly tragedy strikes when her brother, Sean, suffers a stroke from taking steroids. Now he’s lying unconscious in a hospital, and anger drives Margaret to make the criminals pay. Even the cop on the case can't stop her from investigating.

Looking for justice, she convinces two friends, Jimmy and Emily, to join her in a quest through a twisted, drug-filled sub-culture deep in the woods behind the school. Time and again they walk a treacherous path, and come face-to-face with danger. All the while Margaret really wants to cure Sean, heal the hate inside, and open her heart to love.

What is it about Margaret that will make your readers care about her?

Just the same as most teens, Margaret must deal with school and extra-curricular activities as she does the best she can to be a good daughter, sister and friend, but she’s doing it under extreme stress. There’s so much to like and admire about her. She takes it upon herself to identify the drug dealers who sold her brother steroids to win in swimming to uphold her father’s tradition of McWhorter winners. Even though her heart’s breaking, she pushes herself to visit Sean in the hospital. She misses her mother, but tries to help her through this sorrowful time by inviting her to come to the hospital chapel. She even manages to have fun with Emily and Jimmy.

What novel would you like to see brought to film?

What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?

Mind Games [image error] by Nancy Mehl. I couldn’t put this book down. There’s a logical reason why several people are the killer, or UNSUB, as he’s called in the book. Just as I was convinced one guy did it, I read why it was another suspect instead. The book’s filled with twists, emotion and suspense that kept me devouring page after page. The characters are so fascinating and real, I felt as though I knew them, and I was on the case with them.

What are you working on now?

A romantic suspense.
