Typewriter Series #2634 by Tyler Knott Gregson
What does it say of us, that we’ve no time
for honest words, that in all the feet
we vertically rappel down each day,
the miles of blue light we mindlessly scroll,
we cannot spare the moments to truly read?
It’s bitesize or it’s nothing, quotable cliche
or the drought that’s settled into this place,
choking out the growth that once was,
the fertility I cultivated from seedling,
from sprout.
I won’t wait for rainmaker, won’t wait
for snake oil or promise, I’ll plant more
truth, more seeds of suffering, of joy,
and hope that one day the rains return,
that one day we have time for honesty,
for real words written for real reasons,
for poetry, again.
