2011: The Year In Review

In 2011, Deadite Press reprinted most of my back-list in trade paperback and e-book (Darkness On The Edge Of Town, Jack's Magic Beans, Urban Gothic, Take The Long Way Home, A Gathering of Crows, Dead Sea, Kill Whitey, Castaways, Tequila's Sunrise, Clickers 2, and Clickers 3). I also released two new novels (Entombed and The Damned Highway), one new graphic novel (The Last Zombie: Dead New World), one new collection (A Conspiracy of One), and a new novella (Alone).
I visited the set of Ghoul. I attended World Horror, CONvergence, NECON, Horrorfind Weekend, AnthoCon, BizarroCon, and the annual Comix Connection Creator Cookout. I struggled with the new mentor role that's been thrust upon me, dressed in drag for 4,000 people, had a beer named after me, received an award, was roasted twice, gave a keynote speech, laughed, cried, fought, almost died, loved, lost, and lived. I survived a heart attack, a mudslide, an earthquake, and two floods (during the second of which I ended up stuck inside an evacuation zone, and began a second career as a news photographer, with my photos used by AccuWeather and others). I'm in a very different place than I was at the beginning of the year, and indeed, am a very different person. Everything happens for a reason, and what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger, but I hope the Mayans were wrong about this 2012 bullshit, because I really could use a year off…
