That One Moment

[image error]

I stood before her; she, a veritable tower of virtue,

With that one little flaw;

That one little moment was all it took me,

To lose my temper, and act against law.

As I stood before her, a menacing peak of ire

With a momentary wicked heart,

But wicked all the same, with that sinful desire,

To overlook the past, her love and care.

We stood there, like the predator and prey,

She, trembling in anxiety and I, adding to her fear

That one moment, I lashed at her with my tongue,

And watched, impassive, as she dissolved in tears.

Now I regret that one moment, but what’s the point?

For never again will I gain that one moment,

To give her a smile and remove the stain,

And to Replace anger with peace.

That one moment of thoughtlessness, of rash impetuosity

Has made me eternally thoughtful, and done away my ferocity.
