Shoptly Posts 11

I know many of you are already thinking that most of my posts in my blogs are my old works, years old quite often. Where are my new works? Have I stopped writing new ones?

Well I am still writing and painting as enthusiastically as before. But these days they are channeled into four other platforms- my annual republished kindle books (https://amazon.com/author/sharmishthabasu) -they devour quite a huge no. of stories and poems every year. Quite a lot!

my bookstore in shoptly (https://shoptly.com/sharmishthabasu) Another section goes to my shoptly bookstore, here I not only publish my monthly Ezines Agnijaat and Agnishatdal I also publish a set of books of poetry and story. They are quite merrily illustrated and are available as pdf files. Yes you can read them perfectly in your cellular phone and of course in computer.

My twin Ezines Agnijaat and Agnishatdal (both English, monthlies) don’t feature much stories or poems but publish all my new essays and articles and again, truckload of illustrations.

and my patreon profile (https://patreon.com/sharmishthabasu) This one again contains bunch of stories, poems and they almost always are illustrated. If not then the stories are very long and of the type that can’t be illustrated.

I have been so stuck up with my creations that I have ignored my blogs and other social media profiles since 2015 I believe. So, if you enjoyed my works quite amply then I think it is high time that I bring you up to date, to share what I am creating these days and how can you get them!

It will be a lengthy affair, so have patience. I will be updating you about my four years of hyperactive creativity!

I have started with Patreon’s works since April 2019. It is sort of my launch-pad to make my creativity actually become my career. So since creating my profile there I have been updating 5 works each month, two are the Ezines, the remaining three are writing and paintings. Works my blogger friends thoroughly enjoyed. Stories and poems with ample amount of illustrations!

Anyone who becomes my patron there can chose from few tiers-

You can check them from my profile- https://patreon.com/sharmishthabasu

The next set of works will be from my store in shoptly.com. I have created this store because it gives me lot more freedom than other platforms do. I can pick up the formatting and decide how many pictures I will add and in what size. Nothing meddles with them. So I sort of love this platform. You will see dozens of books here, you can directly buy them from shoptly or buy them from me via paypal- https://paypal.me/sharmishthabasu [don’t forget to drop me a line @ sermistabasu@gmail.com after paying in paypal so I can send you the pdf file {all these books cost $1.00

I will go serially, book-wise, today’s piece is from Agnimalya 4: the reptile

The reptile

“Live frogs….” Jayant looked around… where was he? He was lying on a slippery floor, it did not felt cold though. Actually his senses were numb. As if he has frozen.

Then the memories started coming back. Years flashed in his mind like minutes. It was love at first sight.

She was the free spirit, he was born in chains. She was sweet, innocent and full of life. So unfit for the bad bad world! He sort of became her “knight in black armour.”

She fell for that (stunt, sorry) devoted love! He coaxed her to elope and marry, knowing very well that her parents will never allow him to marry their daughter. Older people are always against young folks!

Within one year problems started rearing their head, he wanted her to obey him! Why won’t she? She was his wife! She was supposed to obey him… with years he realized one thing! Why men did not allowed women freedom and education! They must have realized the truth in Vedic times, teach women and allow them freedom they will go out in the world and won’t let men flitter around them!

Especially those who wanted to control them! Their lives!

Well soon the nagging started!

“I want to finish my post graduation!”

“OK then let me join a coaching center for government jobs!”

“Fine … fine at least let me join a center that trains for school service commission exams! That is a respectable job I guess! I will work in girl’s school!”

“I won’t have a child now! You don’t have a steady job! We are in our early twenties so we can wait for another two or three years!”

Then things became ugly, she started throwing tantrums! He did one thing smart though… he blocked her path to return to her parents! First, he was not of her caste and her father was quite fussy about that! So being his wife she no longer was of their caste, thus if she returns there she will be treated like an outcaste, something a woman like her won’t tolerate!”

The only miscalculation was instead of becoming docile she got nasty!

She has been nagging all month for “coaching for school… damned service commission! Finally he lost his cool! Come on! He was a man!

She was hospitalized but she did not call the cops. He bought a silk sari for her on their wedding anniversary.

She was waiting for him calmly in home, table was set, with his favorite delicacies.

“Are you bidding me farewell?” he tried humouring her but she just smiled wanly.

“No remembering the boy who wooed me with roses and chocolates!” she said, watching him eat, licking his fingers. The dishes were extra tasty tonight! Maybe she got the message!

“Why are you not eating?” he asked.

“I will… after you have finished, in your plate…” she smiled sweetly. He watched her keenly, was she mocking him? But her face was placid. He would have suspected foul play!

Nisha! Where was that witch! He tried to get up but could not, all he could do was crawl forth on his belly. He could not close his eyes. His eyelids were gone!

He dragged himself to the opening of the cave…. It was so murky! What happened to his vision!

“Live frogs….” The voice rasped real close to his ears. He turned his face and screamed but all that came out of his mouth was a sharp hiss… a huge water snake was swimming by with a frog in its mouth!

Instinctively he turned his head… to look at his elongated body in green and yellow.
