Typewriter Series #2608 by Tyler Knott Gregson
You’re the tuck in, the promise
that the doors and windows
are locked up tight,
home like a safe house,
secure from the monsters
there must be out there
beyond it all.
You’re the light switch flick,
you’re the footsteps in the night,
climbing up then down,
wearing grooves in the staircase,
you’re the white lie that brings comfort,
even though they know you’re lying.
You’re the ocean of patience
and I’m still a boat built too small
to sail it, bobbing in the swell,
hands on rails but trying
my very best.
Teach me what you know of these currents,
show me the way to stay afloat.
