Typewriter Series #2607 by Tyler Knott Gregson
Saw a species of bird I’d never heard of today,
spangled cotinga looking like children’s candy,
pink throated and otherwise drowned out
in turquoise and purple.
Saddened, quickly, at this, a feeling washed over
and left me upside down and buried,
looking for gravity to remind me which way
was up.
So many I will never know, so much world
there isn’t time to see, even if I start now,
even if it’s all I do, all I’ll ever do.
Some spangled cotinga there, some ribbon tailed
hummingbird haunting the flowers of
some far off spot,
some eyes peeking through sawgrass
as darkness rolls in like a tide.
I am frozen in the face
of all I’ve never known.
